Is your small Town or City like most and still ignoring the needs of small business owners and ignoring possible revenue streams?  Most Towns have failed to realize how they can help bolster their own small business communities by offering lists and directories of small businesses.  So little is being done to help business owners promote themselves that they have had to turn to sometimes expensive directories to get their names out.

There aren't that many choices available but one of the longest running directory now provides regional listings, in this case promotional advertising listings in my old hometown.  The wait can often be long and the reach is limited.  There has been a real increase in the number of eco friendly promotional products type listings in the last few months in the lead up to Earth Day.  Some of these are paid, others are free but they all do a decent job of providing a main index of potential sources.   One of my favorites has been the recycled paper products listings from one of the larger organic sites on the web.  These sites are just a few of the dozens of sites out there that offer this type of meaningful information.   Check around and see what is available to help your business and encourage your local Town to get together a list of like minded businesses in your area.
